Sixth Form students use FutureLearn for Critical Thinking
We would like to draw your attention to an online learning platform run by the Open University in partnership with 12 other UK universities called FutureLearn. It offers what are called MOOCS (Massive Open Online Course).
There is a huge variety of these short courses on offer, ranging from one-off lectures to complete programmes of study. Many courses are free or charge only if you are taking the course as part of a larger university qualification - so if you aren't registered for a formal qualification you can still take a course for personal interest without charge.
At The Ladies' College, all Lower Sixth students complete an 8-week MOOC on Critical Thinking and can choose to study other MOOCs as part of the Joint Colleges' Sixth Form Diploma. FutureLearn has now launched 'FutureLearn Schools' which provides free access to hundreds of online educational courses for school students aged 13+. This is a brilliant way for our girls to pursue areas of interest independently and at their own pace.
